Planning an early-morning airport departure

Passenger walking to the terminal at sunrise for an early-morning departure from Kempegowda International Airport

Pre-dawn departures are the most common trip we run, and they are the ones where an hour of planning the night before matters most.

Work backwards, not forwards

Start at the gate-closing time rather than the departure time. Subtract the check-in and security window your airline asks for, then subtract the drive, then subtract a buffer you will not regret.

The drive itself is the most predictable part of a 4am journey — the roads are empty. It is everything either side of it that runs late.

What changes before 6am

  • Night charges apply to pickups between 10pm and 6am
  • Book the previous evening, not the same morning
  • Confirm the driver's number before you sleep, not when the alarm goes off
  • Give the gate address, not just the apartment name — layouts are hard to find at 3am

The buffer people skip

Most missed flights we hear about are not lost on the road. They are lost getting out of the building — a lift that is being serviced, a gate that is locked, a security register that has to be signed.

Ten minutes at your end costs nothing and removes the only part of the journey nobody can drive faster.

Book the night before, give the gate address, and start the clock from the gate rather than the runway.

Ready to roll?

Send the route and the date. You will have a fare back quickly, and a cab held for the time you need it.
